Domain settings for tracking

Tracking of postal indicators

For our system to track the opens and clicks, you need to configure domain settings for tracking and enable this feature in the project settings.

The tracking process is as follows:

  • We add an invisible pixel in the email as a link. When a user opens an email, the mail system asks for a link to this pixel. We see this request and understand that a specific email was opened.
  • If the email gets into spam, we will not be able to find out about the opening of such an email, as the email provider for emails in spam does not require uploading images.

  • We wrap up the original link the user should follow, adding the necessary parameters for tracking.
  • The original link that will be wrapped up should be a branded link for your domain. To do this, we ask you to configure the tracking domain.
  • When the user follows the wrapped link in the letter, we see this information, register a click and redirect the user to the page he wants.

If there is a case when this option does not suit you (for example, if you use Deep-links, which stop working after wrapping), there are alternatives on how to build a tracking system for postal metrics.

Overview of existing Tracking domains

To view the sender's existing domains and add the new one, go to the Settings -> Tracking domains tab.

In the screenshot:

  1. Adding a new domain for tracking;
  2. Review of validation statuses of existing domains (checked once a day for timely problems detection);
  3. Option to export a table with data in CSV format;
  4. View and delete domain;

Deleting a domain is only possible if you:

  1. Detached it from all projects;
  2. Removed previously registered DNS settings for this domain;

Until the step 2 is finished, links in previously sent emails will still work. After its finalization all old links will be broken and will not lead to the necessary page address.

Adding new Tracking domain

To add a domain for tracking, click the "+" in the upper right corner and enter the domain in the pop-up window.

Next, a CNAME record will be generated by Sendios for the domain you entered. You will need to add this configuration to your domain on your side.

Unlike sender domains, tracking domain status can have 3 values:

  • Not verified - if we can't find the needed records in the domain settings;
  • Pending - if we found entries in your domain settings, but the configuration of the settings is still in progress (may take some time);
  • Verified - everything is fine and the domain is ready for Opens and Clicks tracking.

Due to the specifics of the application of domain settings, the verification of records can take up to 24 hours. If the status of the Not verified record does not change after this time, make sure you have set up the domain settings on your side correctly.
If you are sure that all entries have been added correctly and the Verified status has not appeared in a day, we recommend that you consult your CSM.

Our system checks the domain tracking settings in the background every 24 hours. If any problem occurs, this information will appear in the admin panel.
